Troyeville ICT Centre is a learning and Resource centre of the Gauteng Department of Education. The centre aims at empowering youth and adults with Information and Communication Technology skills to enable then to participate fully in the knowledge economy. The Centre aims to deliver recognised and accredited FET ICT programs using a technology enhanced and supported medium. The model facilitates interactive transmission of learning which allows for the customization of mass learning by providing for a choice of learning methods and opportunities in addition to freedom of access, pace, place and time.

Vision

To become the flagship for the development and delivery of information and communication technology (ICT) skills and training in South Africa as part of the National Human Resources Strategy.

Mission

To provide a platform for the development of a technology enhanced Further Education and Training system that will equip youth and adults with information and communication technology skills necessary to meet the social and economic needs of the 21 st century.

Courses

1. Computer application - ICT Literacy

The centre will offer a course in computer applications that is equivalent to:

"NQF level 2-4

"ABET level 4

"The International Computer Drivers Licence (ICDL), an International benchmark on computer literacy.

The modules are:

Module 1: e-learning readiness

Module 2: Basic concepts of Information Technology

Module 3: Using the Computer and Managing Files'

Module 4: Word processing

Module 5: Spreadsheets

Module 6: Databases

Module 7: Presentations

Module 8: Information and Communication

2. Other Courses

The curriculum committee of the centre is in the process of developing other courses that lead to different careers in information and communication technology. These include network engineers, software development specialists, helpdesk and customer services technicians, programmers, systems administrators, Internet and e-commerce and specialists, website developers and administrators and e-learning course designers etc.
