April is Autism Awareness Month and the ninth annual World Autism Awareness Day. Every year, autism organisations around the world celebrate the month with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events.
According to Claire Allen from Inclusion and Special Schools the awareness month is a time to educate your community about autism and Light It Up Blue! “Spreading autism awareness in schools is a great way to celebrate April and promote inclusion and acceptance in the classroom and beyond.”
“At the Gauteng Department of Education we strive to embrace autism in our schools and in our communities. We encourage everyone to wear blue on 18th April 2017 to show your support to children and adults with autism,” says the Autism Specialist.
